Collect equipment on the Zugspitzplatt
For skiing on the Zugspitze, equipment can be rented directly in the ski area. Skiverleih Zugspitze is on the Zugspitzplatt and signposted after arrival. From Eibsee, take the Zugspitze cable car up and then the Gletscherbahn down to the Platt; the cogwheel railway reaches the Platt directly. The operator describes the remaining walk as only a few metres. This option saves carrying skis on the ascent, but collection must be scheduled after your journey and before any booked lesson.
Mountain shop or valley shop
The mountain rental publishes daily hours of 08:30–16:30, including Sundays and public holidays. The same operator has a valley shop at Zugspitzstraße 68, 82467 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with published hours of 08:00–18:00. These locations are not interchangeable when making a reservation. Confirm where to collect and return equipment and whether transfers between shops are permitted. Mountain-shop opening hours also do not replace checking current lift and ski operations. If the weather changes your plans, ask what happens to the reservation before setting off.
Compare daily prices clearly
Checked online on 24 October 2026. The mountain shop’s price table does not specify a particular season. Adult Basic skis with poles are listed at €32.80 per day and boots at €16.40. Their calculated total is €49.20, or €57.60 with the separately listed €8.40 helmet. Top skis without boots cost €41.40 and Premium skis €50.50. For children up to twelve, skis with poles are €15.80 and boots €8.60. Jackets and trousers are also available, each listed at €16.30 for one day. Confirm sizes, availability and the actual total before booking.
A family day with a clear return plan
The lift operator also describes toboggan runs on the Zugspitzplatt designed especially for families. If combining skiing and sledging, check the appropriate equipment and which runs are open for each activity. Reserving skis does not automatically include a sledge. Try boots carefully in the shop before heading onto the slopes: a later exchange means extra travel. Work backwards from the last usable descent when planning equipment return and allow a buffer. Families splitting up for different activities need a clearly agreed meeting place and time.
Eibsee, cogwheel railway and parking
The lift company lists parking at Eibsee, the Zugspitzbahnhof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kreuzeck. Taking the cogwheel railway can avoid driving all the way to Eibsee. According to the operator, the Zugspitzbahnhof is around 200 metres from the west exit of Garmisch railway station. The single access road to Eibsee can become busy, so allow generous time for an early appointment. Parking areas operated by different companies have different conditions. For example, the Eibsee website gives a 2.10-metre height limit and prohibits overnight parking in its car park. Do not assume that these conditions apply to every lift-company parking area.
